Epoxy Resin Calculator: How Much Resin Do You Need?

Enter the size of the pour, the extra you want to allow and the mix ratio of your kit. The tool shows the total volume and how much of part A and part B to measure

Runs in your browser: what you enter stays on your device

Your Pour

Optional margin for mix that stays in cups, on stir sticks and in the mold. It starts at 10% only as a placeholder: choose your own.

Mix ratio by volume

Use the ratio printed on your kit, for example 1 and 1, or 2 and 1. Check whether the kit gives it by volume or by weight.

Optional

Use the maximum pour depth in your product instructions. The tool then shows how many layers the depth needs.

Only needed to show weights in grams. Take each density from the product data sheet, not from a guess.

Always follow the mixing ratio, working time, layer depth and safety instructions of your own product. This tool only does the volume math.

Resin Needed
Total to mix
330.0 ml · 11.2 fl oz
Part A
165.0 ml · 5.6 fl oz
Part B
165.0 ml · 5.6 fl oz
Without the extra
300.0 ml · 10.1 fl oz

Volumes assume the ratio is by volume and that 1 cm³ equals 1 ml. Check the instructions of your product before you mix.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose the shape, the unit and the size of the pour, or enter a volume you already know.
  2. Set the extra you want to mix and the A and B parts of your kit’s ratio. Add a density or a maximum layer depth only if you need weights or layers.
  3. Read the total and the amount of part A and part B to measure, then press Copy Result.

Worked example

A 30 × 20 cm tray poured 0.5 cm deep holds 300.0 ml. With 10% extra the total is 330.0 ml, which is 11.2 US fl oz. At 1 to 1 that is 165.0 ml of part A and 165.0 ml of part B. At 2 to 1 it would be 220.0 ml of part A and 110.0 ml of part B.

Methodology

The volume of a pour is its area times its depth. A rectangle uses length × width × depth, a circle uses π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × depth, and you can type a volume directly for an irregular mold. Everything is converted to milliliters, because 1 cubic centimeter is exactly 1 milliliter. The tool then multiplies by the number of pieces, adds your extra percentage and splits the total into part A and part B by the ratio you enter. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

Formulas used: Volume (cm³ = ml) = length × width × depth, or π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × depth, with millimeters divided by 10 and inches multiplied by 2.54 to get centimeters. Total = volume × pieces × (1 + extra ÷ 100). Part A = total × A ÷ (A + B) and part B = total × B ÷ (A + B). One US fluid ounce is 29.57 ml. Weight = volume × density, shown only if you enter a density. Layers = depth ÷ maximum depth per pour, rounded up, and each layer is an equal share of the total.
Limits: The tool does the volume math only. It does not know your product: the mix ratio, working time, cure time, safe layer depth and safety precautions come from the manufacturer’s instructions, and a thick pour can behave differently from a thin one. The ratio here is by volume. If your kit gives a ratio by weight, follow its weight instructions with a scale. The extra percentage is your own choice, and a mold with an uneven shape is best measured by filling it with water and entering that volume.

Volume of common pours

The same formula applied to a few typical pieces, with 10% extra mix added.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate how much epoxy resin I need? ▼

Multiply the length, the width and the depth of the pour to get its volume, and read the result in milliliters (1 cm³ is 1 ml). Add a margin for the mix that stays in the cup and on the stir stick, then split the total into part A and part B by your kit’s ratio. The calculator does all of this and also handles round pieces.

How much extra resin should I mix? ▼

It depends on your mold, your cups and how careful you are. The calculator starts at 10% only as a placeholder, so change it to the margin that suits you. A mold with an irregular shape is best measured by filling it with water first.

Is the ratio by volume or by weight? ▼

The ratio in this tool is by volume. Some kits give it by weight, and because the two parts can have different densities, a weight ratio is not the same as a volume ratio. Follow your product’s instructions and, if it says weight, measure with a scale.

What is the maximum depth I can pour at once? ▼

It depends on the product, so the tool does not assume one. Enter the maximum pour depth from your product’s instructions, and the tool shows how many layers your depth needs and roughly how much to mix for each.

Is my data uploaded anywhere? ▼

No. The calculation runs in your browser, so the numbers you type stay on your device and nothing is saved. If you reload or close the page, the fields return to their defaults.
