How to use this tool
- Click the box and select the PDF.
- Choose JPG or PNG and the resolution. Leave “Pages to convert” empty for every page, or type something like 1-3, 5.
- Press “Convert to images” and wait while the log shows each page.
- Download each image with its own button, or press “Download all as ZIP”.
Worked example
Say you have a 12-page brochure and only want pages 1 and 12 as images for social media. Type 1, 12 in the pages box, keep JPG and “Standard (144 dpi)”, and press “Convert to images”: two JPG files appear, named after the brochure with page-001 and page-012. If the text looks soft once you zoom in, convert again with “High” or choose PNG.
Methodology
Each page is drawn on a canvas in your browser by pdf.js, the open-source PDF engine from Mozilla (version 3.11.174, served from this site), and the canvas is saved as a JPG (quality 92 %) or a PNG. The file is read into your device's memory and is never sent to a server.
PDF-to-image surprises, and what happens in each
Most surprises come from what an image can and cannot keep from a PDF. Here is what this tool does.
- Expecting selectable text. An image is a picture of the page: the text can no longer be selected, searched or copied. Keep the original PDF if you need that.
- Text looks soft. A low resolution blurs small print. Use “High” or “Print”, or switch to PNG, which keeps sharp edges better than JPG at the cost of larger files.
- A PDF with hundreds of pages. Every page becomes an image kept in memory until you download it. Convert in ranges, such as 1-50 and then 51-100, if your phone struggles.
- A scanned PDF. The pages are already pictures. The tool renders them as they appear, not the original embedded scan, so file size follows the resolution you pick.
- A password-protected PDF. It cannot be opened here, and the log says so. Unlock it first with the program that protected it.
Frequently asked questions
Is this PDF to JPG converter really free and unlimited? ▼
Yes. There is no account, daily limit, watermark or page cap set by us. The practical limit is your device's memory, so very long PDFs are better converted in page ranges.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server? ▼
No. The PDF is read and drawn inside your browser tab, and the images are created on your device. The page only downloads its own scripts, so confidential contracts or ID scans stay with you.
Which resolution should I choose? ▼
72 dpi suits small previews, 144 dpi is a good default for reading on screen or sharing, 216 dpi helps when people will zoom in, and 288 dpi is meant for printing small formats. Higher resolutions make larger files and take longer.
JPG or PNG: which one is better? ▼
JPG makes much smaller files and suits photos and colorful pages. PNG is lossless and keeps text and line drawings sharper, but a page can be several times larger.
